Another update:
Home Sweet Home!
After a very long week we are thrilled to all be home! Ella was discharged around 11 this morning. They originally wanted to keep her until Saturday morning to give the tests for a port infection 48 hours, but decided to let us go home today. Since she had chills (shaking with her coat and mine on and the heat in the car on full blast) on Wednesday afternoon, a fever of 102.5 and had thrown-up, all after having her port accessed, everyone thought it was very likely she had a port infection. Instead, a chest x-ray showed pneumonia in her right lung and another test came back positive for the rsv virus. We'll take these over a port infection any day! She's on a couple of antibiotics, has been fever free since early yesterday morning and is now running around the house like nothing happened. Praise God! We go back to Duke on Monday morning for a follow-up.
We feel very blessed to have had great MRI results, blessed that the fever/sypmtoms held off until after the MRI (we wouldn't have been able to have it done if she had a fever), blessed to be in the hands of such incredibly caring and talented doctors and nurses, blessed to be surrounded by love and prayers, and blessed to be home. God is good - all the time!
We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Ups and Downs
Ella went through everything like a champ. Praise God, her scan indicates stable. We are overjoyed with the news. Dr. Warren indicated that she thought she noticed a slight weakness on her left side during the clinical exam. She said that it could be anything and not to worry until we see the scans. RIGHT. So, for 24 hours we worried until we heard the good news. Dr. Warren said that the scan indicated an extremely high and sustained spike that she has never seen before. She does not know what that means- but it is different. We think different is good.
On the way home yesterday, Ella got sick and vomited all over the car. Luckily for us, she had not eaten anything other than a bite of an egg and a popsicle. Since we were halfway home, we were told to head straight for Duke Hospital. Whenever someone has a port and a fever it could be an infection and needs to be checked out. Around midnight or so they decided to keep Ella overnight. So Renae stayed with Ella and I took Jack home. Jack is headed back to school and I am headed back to the hospital. Hopefully we can come home this afternoon.
Thank you for your prayers and positive thoughts.
The Newmillers
We arrived at NIH last night and were blessed with smooth travels. Ella had blood work and a physical today and will have her MRI tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 9:00 am. As usual, we are nervous. Please pray for everything to go smoothly and perfectly with Ella's tests and procedures, for all of us to be filled with God's peace and calmness, and especially for great results. We thank you so very much for being our prayer warriors on this journey!
Love & blessings,
